A personal reference is best way to land a job. After that your background and education get you the job.

I think having a personal reference is highly important. BUt before they can get to that point, you will have to make a good impression during the interview itself. You should always have a list of references on hand at interviews. Even if they don't ask for them. Being prepared is half the battle.

          krayzdrayzor,

Good call. It is always important to dress up for an interview for that exact reason.

I used to work at a private country club....you would be surprised at how many people came to look for a job in the fine dining restaurant looking like they just got out of bed and couldn't find a brush. Nothing to look like they actually wanted a job.

hehe...yes, you would be surprised at some of the horror stories I have heard of new professionals or graduating students going to their first interview. Hopefully the people at your country club found a job at some point.

Great response! I couldn't agree with you more. And as long as you dress up for the interview, you can be as sloppy as you want at home...lol

Good luck with your job search. I've been doing that for several months. I start my new job Tuesday, yea!

I always dressed up for my interviews, had an excellant written resume (no errors). I did have several people go over my resume first.

Yes, a great grammatical resume helps a lot! Employers see that you are detail oriented and you start off on a good note. Congrats on the new position!
